Hand massage doesn't follow secret teachings but anatomy. Four zones do the work: the thenar eminence (under the thumb), the area between the metacarpal bones, the finger joints, and the wrist. If you know these four, you don't need a point chart.
The Thenar Eminence
The fleshy bulge below the thumb is the largest muscle in the hand. It works with every grip and is almost always tight in people who work a lot with a mouse or use tools.
It is massaged with circular movements of the opposite thumb, from the wrist edge towards the base of the thumb. About one minute per hand is sufficient. If it becomes sharp instead of dull, the pressure is too high.
The Spaces Between the Metacarpal Bones
Between the long bones of the palm are small muscles that spread and bring the fingers together. They can be felt on the back of the hand when you spread your fingers.
Here you work with your thumb in the grooves between the bones, from the wrist towards the knuckles. This zone is often forgotten in most self-massages, yet it is where hours of typing leave the most noticeable tension.
The Finger Joints
Each finger is worked through individually: stroke from the base to the tip, then gently roll each joint between two fingers of the other hand. No pulling, no forcing cracks.

Do not apply targeted pressure to knotty thickenings on the joints. These are bony growths and not hardened muscle. Why this is especially true for arthritis is explained in the article Hand Massager for Arthritis.
The Wrist and the Transition to the Forearm
The tendons that move the fingers run through the wrist and have their muscles in the forearm. If you only massage the hand, you're leaving out the actual cause.
Therefore, the forearm is included: the flexor side on the inside and the extensor side on the outside, each stroked from the elbow to the wrist. This is the hand movement that makes the biggest difference for discomfort from typing.
The Zone to Avoid
On the inside of the wrist, in line with the index finger, the median nerve runs through a narrow canal. Strong pressure exactly there causes tingling in the fingers. This is not a sign of effectiveness, but nerve irritation, and it should be avoided.
If you already experience numbness or fingers falling asleep at night in that area, skip the spot entirely and seek medical clarification for the cause. A device is then not a means of self-treatment.
Order and Duration
It makes sense to go from large to small: first the forearm, then the thenar eminence, then the spaces, and finally the fingers. Five to eight minutes per hand is enough; after that, the tissue hardly reacts to the stimulus anymore.
If you want to apply the same sequence with a device, you can find the types under Massage Devices; which one suits which complaint is narrowed down by the Device Finder.
The Point Between Thumb and Forefinger
The web space between the thumb and forefinger is the best-known point on the entire hand, and in traditional Chinese medicine, it has its own name. Anatomically, there is a small muscle there that draws the thumb towards the forefinger and works with every grip.
It is significantly pressure-sensitive in most people, and there's a simple reason for that: it's constantly used and never stretched. It is massaged by taking the web space between the thumb and forefinger of the other hand and gently kneading it.
A note on this that is often missing: This point is omitted in many guides during pregnancy. There is no reliable evidence of danger, but as long as the question is not clarified, caution applies, and in case of doubt, consult a doctor.
